The weather factors we analyze
Snowfall. The expected accumulation for the school day is the single strongest signal — but how much it takes to close a school varies hugely by region, which is why the model weighs it against local snow habits.
Temperature and wind chill. Very cold air keeps snow dry and roads icy, and extreme wind chill can close schools for student safety with no fresh snow at all; temperatures above freezing melt snow and lower the odds.

This is an original, transparent scoring model. In Live mode it looks up your coordinates from a US ZIP code (Zippopotam.us) or a worldwide city search (Open-Meteo geocoding), then reads the current temperature, feels-like, snowfall, wind and visibility plus the next day's snowfall, minimum temperature and maximum wind from the free, keyless Open-Meteo forecast API. Each weather factor is scored 0–100 — snowfall on a rising curve, temperature by how far below about 34°F the wind chill sits, wind by speed and visibility by how low it drops — then blended by weight (snow 44%, cold 24%, wind 16%, visibility 16%). That base is multiplied by adjustments for school level, local snow-readiness, timing and existing snow, and capped at 99%. Manual mode runs the same model on numbers you enter, with no network lookup.
